FCRE Government Relations Team

The Government Relations Team (GRT) is a group of retired educators who are interested in speaking on behalf of all of Virginia's retired education employees. The GRT consists of members of FCRE and FEA-R working together to support and speak for the issues that we determine to be most critical in the upcoming 2010 General Assembly Session.

In September, the GRT will meet to begin looking at the Position Statement we put together for last year's General Assembly. From there, we will move on to consider the economic condition of the state and of the country in general. We will make a very strong statement for not cutting education and the Virginia Retirement System.

How can you get involved? The GRT will be meeting every month on Thursdays at 10 a.m. at the FEA Office in Fairfax. Here are the dates:

September 17, 2009
October 15, 2009
November 12, 2009
December 17, 2009
January 14, 2010

Lobby Day is scheduled for January 28, 2010 in Richmond.

The following issues will be addressed and discussed:
1. Follow-up on meetings with the School Board
2. Develop the Position Statement which addresses retiree issues for the 2010 General Assembly Session
3. Establish schedule to visit with state legislators in their home ofices
4. Plans for January 28, 2010, Lobby Day in Richmond

If you would like to join us, please call Fairfax County Retired Educators at 703-425-2424 and leave your name (please spell), your telephone number, and your email address. We will get back to you as soon as possible. Or send us an email at fcre@fcre.org.

Now located in central Fairfax City on Rt 123, the Legato School Museum is open to the public on certain holidays and by appointment. The museum has no admission charge.
