Contacting Your State Legislators in the Virginia General Assembly

To send an e-mail message to your current state legislators:

  • Visit the General Assembly's website, Virginia Legislature, or enter the following in your web browser: http://legis.state.va.us/
  • Select "Who's My Legislator," enter your street address, city, and ZIP code in the appropriate spaces and your legislator's names will appear.
  • Click on the legislator's name and his/her e-mail address, and type your message.

During the annual session only the General Assembly Constituent Viewpoint office provides a toll-free, intrastate telephone message center to take calls from citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia wishing to express their opinions on legislation. Callers will be asked to provide their name, address, and the issue on which they are expressing their opinion. The message will then be transmitted to the constituent's appropriate legislators. The Constituent Viewpoint office is located in the General Assembly Building. and is open from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on weekdays only during the regular winter sessions of the General Assembly. In 2008 that session convened between January 9 and March 8, 2008.

The number for the toll-free opinion line is (800) 889-0229.
Callers in the Richmond area may dial (804) 698-1990.

During the remainder of the year when the General Assembly is not in session, constituents should contact their legislators at their offices in their home districts.
